Residential Program Model
Two distinct ways to stay:
The Way Inn offers two clearly separate paths, and a guest chooses one before they arrive:
Short stays are booked through Airbnb, as ordinary short-term lodging. Airbnb collects and remits Virginia transient occupancy tax. No program participation is expected; guests arrive, rest, and go.
Residential programs are entered by application, not by the night. A participant enrolls in a defined program of practice and service, receives an individualized schedule, and takes part in daily sadhana and karma yoga for the length of their stay. Accommodation is included as part of the program, not sold separately.
This page describes the residential programs. If you're looking for a simple overnight stay without program participation, our Airbnb listing is the right door.
The residential program
Every residential participant is enrolled in a personal program built around three daily practices, held here at AgniWellCare or, where the participant wishes, at the neighboring Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville:
-
Karma yoga (seva). Selfless service offered to the community — gardening, kitchen support, grounds and guest-space care, or skills the participant brings. Daily hours are set by the participant's chosen level of exchange.
-
Hatha yoga. A daily asana practice, matched to the participant's experience, from gentle and restorative through more established practice.
-
Silent meditation. A daily period of silent practice, and access to the ashram's meditation and Satsang offerings across the road.
An individualized curriculum and daily schedule are prepared for each participant from their application — their practice background, their intentions, their chosen seva, and their rhythm (early risers may keep brahma muhurta; others follow a later start). No two schedules are identical, because no two practitioners arrive in the same place.
Program levels and exchange
Participation is offered at four levels. The level a participant chooses determines both their daily seva commitment and their program contribution. Higher service, lower contribution — the exchange is real, and it is recorded.
Contributions are set in consultation at the time of enrollment, not posted as nightly rates. Every participant completes a statement of intention and a karma yoga agreement, and seva hours are logged during the stay. These records are kept by the organization and distinguish program participation from ordinary lodging.
What a day can look like
An illustrative Active-seva schedule — each participant's own is drawn up individually.
-
Early morning — optional silent meditation; those keeping brahma muhurta rise for it
-
Morning — hatha yoga practice
-
Midday — karma yoga (garden, kitchen, or grounds), followed by the midday meal
-
Afternoon — rest, study, or personal practice; ashram programming available across the road
-
Evening — silent sitting, Sunset Fire Circle, or Satsang at the ashram
Applying
Residential programs are entered through the Stay Request Form below. The application asks about your practice, your intentions, and your interest in seva, so that we can prepare a program suited to you. We respond within 24 hours with availability, a proposed schedule, and next steps. Enrollment is confirmed once the program schedule and karma yoga agreement are set.
The residences
Four spaces house the residential program. Which one you're placed in depends on your program, your length of stay, and availability.
Yoga Cottage — the private sanctuary. Sleeps 2–4, with one queen bed and a pullout sofa. Spacious and self-contained — best suited to couples and families, and to anyone whose practice asks for privacy and room to settle.
Bhavan Guest House — the upstairs retreat. Sleeps 2–4, with one full bed and a futon. Garden and forest views — a quiet, elevated space well suited to couples.
Kutir — the simple cabin. Sleeps 1–2, with one full bed. Pared back by design: a plain retreat room for solo practitioners drawn to simplicity.
Seva Residence — for those who serve. Sleeps 4–6, with two full beds and two twins. Built for extended stays and the service-minded, at the resident-seva level of exchange, with sustained daily karma yoga at its heart.
Extended stays are welcomed. Longer residencies deepen the practice and the exchange; program contributions reflect the length and level of participation, settled at enrollment.
